  This is one of the latest posts:
  "Contests, open design jams, and even spec work are, and will continue to be, a growing facet of the design landscape and much important and influential work will be created using these vehicles."

  I was surprised at the number of people who posted their support for spec work. I'm curious how people think they can support themselves by working this way.

  I dunno. I don't get the logic. The threads are a pretty long read but it feels like 60-75% of the people think spec work is okay.

  The thing is, that if this is a true sampling of feelings in the design community, then I think this probably will become more common. I'm not against competition but I want to know how these people expect to support themselves? A number of people said that they thought this would make our work better. This assumes that the people behind the contests will make good choices. We all know how good clients are at that.

  I would have participated in the space150 thing. It's a cool brand and they allow for a lot of creative freedom.

  Redesigning would feel like play, not work.

  I think it's the sort of thing that would have been taken as a normal competition before the advent of spec work.

  Having said that, the feedback was obviously mostly negative, hence the bitter and defensive retraction.
