Can you do a blend? ie: start with a circle at X diameter and end with your desired width.
If you set the smoothness properly, the width of the line should be pretty good. Not sure how this would work though.

That would work for creating a brush or straight line, however, it wouldn't work for a line with a lot of bends. Plus, as the complexity increases, it would make things difficult. Thanks for the tip though, it will help with brushes.
This seems like something I should submit as a request to Adobe. It would make things so much easier.

Yeah, it'd be cool if you could assign certain anchor points different stroke weights, as well as colors and transparency.

I might try what Gucci suggests.....
Make a blend between say....2 circles of different diameters
expand the blend
make the blend into an art brushShouldn't be toooo much of a pain to create say a collection of 10 or 20 brushes.
I don't see any other way you could precisly control the thickness

not editable but the blob tool is pressure sensitive w/ tablet and gives you some nice thick/thin lines.
- no tablet, thanks though.section_014
- blob tool rules. if you use AI lots good reason to buy a tablet.inkpink

not sure results you're trying to achieve but this brush set is also decent for natural looking lineart.
