    hello,

this is a bit of a draft (need to cull some projects as some of it is looking all a bit the same) and also need to make some images better quality.

looking for some constructive feedback :) let me know what projects you think are boring/shit and what works well.

im a print designer and this site is my only experience with web so hope its not too bad...dont know html/code and only used 'design view' in dreamweaver.

Your work is nice. I am not a web person at all and am the last person who should criticise another's site, but I felt two things should be said:

    1. The piece of text thats about you... do that as a nice piece of typographic setting saved as a good quality Jpeg. Looks terrible in 'live text' font at the moment.

    2. You need to ask someone to help you resolve the loading issue... namely that when I got to your site, I had already absorbed the visual imagery presented and began to scroll down... to see completely blank areas where things had not started loading yet.

That would be my only two comments.

    • thanks, and yes i need to make the images smaller in file size (will make it load quickerantoine_101

your work is very nice. however with the quantity you are showcasing, you might either want to make the image files for each project smaller (maybe around 100kb/project) or go to a one project on a page type deal. might want to look into a car-go folio type deal. the slideshow and project functionality would be good for you. and if you are mainly a print person it is pretty easy to set up.

    Hi,

Yes, good work. Here is my mudslinging:

Less of each piece please - i can barely fit all of each piece onto the screen, much less the descriptive text that goes with it. For example, the first piece you have six spreads for the south america brochure - I can get the gist of your design with two or three spreads.

Also... you could make the images of your print pieces bigger. Since you're a print designer I'd love to see the type and spacing you use, but at the tiny size you have them, I can't make it out at all. If you don't make the image size bigger, at least include a detail image.

I agree that you could cut down on the # of projects - your travel brochures do look pretty similar. Perhaps present an image of stacked copies of all of them, followed by interior spreads of one of them, if you want to show that you did more than one?

Finally, I like the collage of all your work at the top. It would be even better if I could click each one and the page would scroll to the project in question. No fancy script needed here, you can do this in dreamweaver.

Extra-finally, I agree with Orbit in that your about text needs to be nicely laid out - you're a designer, this is your chance to show off (:

Sorry, I bet your work is worth looking at but your website is so incredibly slow with loading, not even because the images are too big, but the hosting just seems very slow to me.

I'm in the Netherlands on 25mbit dedicated line.

Conclusion .. I closed the tab .. took too long.

    • Total size for your page is 5.23MB... yeah, wayyyy too big.bigtrick
    • ok thats strange, my site is with godaddy.com hosting and never had probs with them before, will look into itantoine_101

I think you might want to define what it is you're selling - and what you're trying to attain. As a portfolio site, you're showing a LOT of the same kind of work (travel/brochure/book cover) and there is a lot here that feels derivative of existing design classics ('come back interesting' campaign) and while THAT campaign in particular IS nicely designed, It's a style that has been recently pretty endulged.

What do you want to be accomplishing with this portfolio? getting a new job? freelance? Just showing it off (btw - nothing wrong with this either)?

Your Jiaxing Towers brochure is really nice - but the rest of your printed work (Gap Year Travel Book 2009, Gap Year Travel Book 2008, C+R Architects Annual, etc.) feel like you're showing the same thing (differentiation of subjects by color) TOO many times. Do you have any NON-professional work? something that exists beyond brochures/travel/architecture? I think that seeing some of your PERSONAL vision and not work that has LIKELY been diluted by demanding clients might be nice.

You're work isn't bad - don't get me wrong at all - But I would just like to see more of a personal vision and breadth of work.

Like the site. Supa easy to see your work. Some thoughts..

    - Put your very best work at the very top.
    - Too much drop shadow
    - Need BACK TO TOP button
    - "Thank You for visiting my folio" is too large

nice work- maybe just more space between projects.

or...make each project a page linking from that top arrangement. seems a bit busy with everything on 1 page.
