I've got more time than budget on a project and need a very specific image.. one that is to be found nowhere on i/shutter-stock and Getty want £1,350 for thier one. (RF has nothing either)
So I'm thinking I've heard a lot of talk about Flickr as an image base... but I need to know what the legal aspects are. How do you search? Can you just use pics or do you have to contact people? ...etc
Also if anyone has advice.. the kind of image I need is this. (this's the expensive one though)

link doesn't work but anyway. always ask people on flickr, even if their license says do what you want, always ask. they will be happy to let you use their pics most of the time.

Linky no worky.
Only polite to ask to use their image.

Do a search for images with a creative commons license, if you find one that you're happy with, get in touch with the photographer and see what happens. I've done this before with success.

yes you have to contact the flickr user and organize something between yourselves - Flickr isn't a free pool of resources for advertising creatives, its a photo sharing community - so be nice

cool thanks. Yeah that's what I thought.
but the link doesn't work?? I can see it fine on my machine. Maybe cos it's cached or something weird.. it's image 87114890 on getty. I basically need an abstract shot of revellers..but abstract enough that it can be at either a game or a gig. If you know of any let me know

Flickr images have various licenses, some only require you to mention their author.

this is what happens when you don't get permission.

useful tool. searches flickr images based on creative commons licensing. great for comps, hence it's name:

My suggestion would be to get a similar crowd photo with a couple of people in the foreground like this image. Then create some lens flares and color treatments in Photoshop. It might take a few hours, but save you the price of a rights managed photo.
- and you could use this as part of the background too: http://www.flickr.co…CyBrain

flickr images use the creative commons licensing rules; the user sets the rules. so you can search under 'freebie' images but if not then you need to get permission.

maybe something like this

with a color treatment and some lens flares?
