I've used
plaintxt - pretty good.
Thematic - used but not enough to make an educated opinion.other then those two the others dont seem to have comprehensive knowledge base/ help..

What are you looking for? Links to themes, or help with building your own?
Just build your own theme or hire a wp dev guy to do it.
It's very simple.

The only theme framework I like is Hybrid: http://themehybrid.com/
Install the parent theme, and then install the "skeleton" child theme.
The skeleton theme is basically a CSSless WP theme. Hence the name.
It's like a fresh slate. Just style it up.

yeah. that seems to be the trend; child themes.
@pylon: was looking for first hand testimonials. maybe something i haven't found yet.@acescence: you seem to hit the mark. php it myself. can't seem to avoid that process. unless of course, i pay someone else to get it done.

I've been tweaking this one today for a client who wants a quick cheap site.
really easy to tweak. i removed the blog element of it and she'll just be able to create new pages that'll add in as side nav. Its just a wee CV site.Theme:Portfolio Press

I don't really hate Wordpress for some projects it suits perfectly. Making a custom theme als is pretty easy. So no hate from me

I've used thematic, it's pretty good. It does slow everything down a little going through a parent theme and then a child. This is easily fixed with a caching plugin though (such as: http://wordpress.org/extend/plug…)
