So, my 17 year old brother wants to go to film school. I've tried to talk him into graphic/web design, but he's not trying to hear it.
He's get his heart set on USC's film school. Can anyone recommend any other schools that have good film/motion programs.
Many thanks in advance

Why would you try to talk him out of film and into graphic design? That's like trying to talk an esteemed professor at Yale or Harvard into teaching elementary school. If someone doesn't have passion for graphic design and its typical vessels of communication, they will just be another person wasting pixels on the web who goes back to school at 40 during their mid-life crisis.
- Meaning, let him do what he wants. It's his passions, not yours.dMullins

I had a discussion with someone at the job that was similar. just talk him to going to a program that gets a 4yr bachelors degree and not just some certificate or an associates degree. he'll be much more set in life if he decides film isn't for him or can't find a job in the industry.

Interesting. I have a friend who's trying to transfer into the USC film program after going to UArts for two years. I wouldn't talk him out of film school, but if he really wants to do it he should get working on a good demo reel and have some scripts or storyboards when he applies.
As Mimio said, Tisch NYU was my favorite for film based on the schools I toured. Also Art Center (ACCD) had a very cool film department, but I don't know if that would be my top pick. Columbia was really cool too. RIT and Pratt film programs looked interesting but I didn't really look into them much.

USC is not bad, but he won't be filming a lot. mainly talk, write and reading.

i wouldn't recommend Art Center. never seen any good film coming out of that school. if he wanted design is then yes, they are great at that.
- Yeah. Michael Bay. eugh, but they have nice equipment and services for students.ismith

What's his main interest in film? Is it from a craft angle (like cinematagraphy), or does he want to be a storyteller (director/writer), or post (editing/VFX)?
He can also look into other routes like theater or literature programs, depending on his interests. I have some friends who are screenwriters and filmmakers and they come from theater/writing programs.

hmmmmmm..... Film school can be good for some people, terrible for others. I knew some people who became drug addicts in film school.... and alot of people who never finished their films who work in unrelated jobs and have TONS of student loans.
I also know two people who got their films into Sundance.
Personality.... should be driven, somebody who actually finishes things, who takes criticism with a grain of salt, who can ignore ego wars, who can stay up late doing stuff, who doesn't go on random tangents.... i..e the opposite of many of the ADHD people I knew in school.....
