I've been reading a lot about interior design trends and how we'll be further pressing towards warm tones, deep, rich woods etc. in a subconscious attempt to feel comfortable, warm and safe in in our surroundings. A sort of nesting mentality. A lot of comparisons to the 70s have been made as the tougher economic conditions encouraged similar styles and behaviors back then.
So that said, and switching gears a bit, do you think that companies will be working to bring back memories of happier times by delving into the vault and bringing back a lot of retro branding, campaigns, packaging etc? Much more than anything we've seen recently.
Obviously Pepsi has gone the other way, but most people in their comments have gravitated to preferring their older branding, decades old branding even. What are your thoughts?

Yes.
But as far as interior design? Lord I hope not. The 70's were a hideous decade for design.

it's hard to imagine things getting any more retro than they already are, but who knows?

Haven't we just finished recycling the 80s style? I think 90s is next.

I was wondering if they ornate, decorative, baroque qualities of the last few years might be trimmed back

Although interior design was my intro, the topic was more on whether companies would gravitate towards retro branding to appeal to a comfort zone in people as they feel so insecure otherwise right now...

Maybe they can plug us all in to a giant virtual reality simulation of the world the way it used to be...we'd never know the difference.

I think we're all retro'd out....

I think there has certainly been talk about a resurgence in different values from those that caused the GEC, ie. individuality, greed, corruption etc, and some of that will filter into the collective consciousness.
If indeed that does happen, then some corporates would be wise to adjust their current branding and marketing efforts away from those being espoused in the last couple of years.
Just my opinion.

i think there's still hope for punk to expand a little bit. maybe even disco. also i predict the permanent end of graphic tshirts with grungy skulls plastered all over them. in fact lets just hope for the end of grunge. ughh..
