Worked 2 years as a graphic designer, then I got a BA in Industrial Design that I never use. Then I have been working 6 years as a GD/AD after that.
School would be a wise choice with the current market situation, when you pop out after 3 or 5 years, everything is up and running again at full speed.

so, basicly, you need a bachelor or master to get a good job.
- no just to be in ManagementBattleAxe
- no, not at all.********
- no.
It's good to have as a backup and if you want more of a chance in upper positions.Jaline - it will get you further in in large companies, but in small agencies a MA means shit as long as you have a nice folio********
- Tom no one cares if you have a BA or not. All you need is a good Portfolio.moamoa
- try that talk in Melbourne and see how you go... they screw up the resume before they even look at the folioAmicus

To everyone here who thinks you don't need a degree but have one anyway: why did you get one? I'm genuinely curious. I have my own reasons (for myself) and theories (about other people), of course, but I'm interested to hear from people in the industry.
- I got a degree to LEARN about design, and to build a portfolio. I got both.monospaced
- I almost did an MA but decided against it because it wasn't really my thing.Jaline
- raw talent isn't enough
it needs practice, learning how to engage in a systematic design process, learning design history.Nadooy - I'm still studying though. dunno how it is i the "real" world.
and the region does make a differenceNadooy - the real world makes good use of my design educationmonospaced
- I don't regret one day in school

All you need to get a great job is a great portfolio.
