Like tits on a nun... useless.
Anyone that gets a virus on a mac is probably running windows through bootcamp as well, which makes you open to computer VD.

Safari flagged up an infected website (thisislondon.co.uk) the other day. It said it contained malware and if i continued it'd be my own fault...

The thing about having a good AV is it protects you from hack threats as well. They're may be far less viruses/spyware written for Mac, but they are just as vulnerable to being hacked as a PC. imo I care more about someone stealing my information then I do about viruses.

so, whats the best AV for OSX?

^This gives a rundown of all the Mac AV software:

here's my secret to not getting viruses...
DON'T RUN AS ADMIN
very simple. whatever you run has your rights. you're not an admin, they can't do any real damage.
also, a mac by default has all of it's services shut off. windows boxes used to be more susceptible to hack attempts because all sorts of unnecessary services were running in the background that could be compromised. they've changed that, so it's not like it used to be.
just get a decent firewall.
i don't use AV on my mac or windows boxes and i've never had an issue.

I have norton and it has blocked 5 hack attempts.
- hahahaha, that's what it SAYS. Do you feel justified in your retarded purchase?monospaced

Buddy of mine just emailed me to say that all the Macs in his department at work are infected with a virus... it begins.

I love it when Apple users say they will never get a virus, as though they know absolutely anything about internet/network security.
- I'll never get a virus, and I know absolutely nothing about internet/network security. All because I have a Mac.monospaced
