Sorry to create another thread about this, but I'd just like to know who is picking up the tab for this whole CERN thing?
Are the Europeans that well off in the world economy that they can afford all this during such times? Please fill me in...

It's a bargain compared to flying a bunch American jingo-rednecks over to Iraq to kill people indescriminately.

This CERN thing is cheap shit, just 2% of the military budget of the United States

I doubt Zombie Jesus would approve of all these scientist spending money on stuff. Read the Bible there was this garden with a talking snake and some apples and a naked chick there was no big bang.

Hey Stylus, just an fyi, there are lots of christians who believe in the big bang. The disagreement stems from how it all began, and the explanation science gives (matter came from nothing) is def no better then the creation account in the Bible. Both take faith.

It's being funded by 6 countries.

Everyone is paying for it - the Yanks, the Euros, the Brits, Japs, Middle easterners. If a country's got a scientist there, its government will be stumping up some of the cash - even Iran's involved.
Shit on it as much as you like, but regardless of whether you think it's worth the money, it's one of the few working examples of pan-human unity in effect today.
Personally, I think the search for knowledge is the principal purpose of humankind, so I'm happy to contribute my coupla quid to it.
