I am compelled to look at this kind of thing. Always. I cannot refrain once I know its there. They stay with me too sometimes. Not these examples though, they are safely impersonal.
I made the most terrible mistake of my life watching the video that was posted online of the hostage being beheaded by islamic extremists... you know the one I mean? I think he was an American journalist.
That experience stayed with me and shook me to the bones for weeks on end afterwards. It fucked everything up for me. I could not function properly. The terribleness of that. The sound she made, the time it took, the tools they used, the awful inhumanity of it. It really had a bad affect on me.
Has anyone seen the one of the failed shotgun suicide sitting on a hospital bed with a face like a flower? Unbelievable.

^------ Yeah, I saw that video too. (I think he was a plumber or construction guy, though. I don't know, maybe there were two videos. The one I saw was a guy from Ohio I think, mid 20's.) It was so horrible. That was like two years ago, and it didn't fuck me up as bad, but when I think about it, as you said, the sounds, the time hit me and this sense of sadness fills me. It really instilled a sense of reality of how fucked up the world is and how far people can go to defend their belief systems.
On the other hand, I've been looking at fucked up gross shit for far longer than that. I stumbled upon rotten.com back in the late 90's. Images aren't as bad as video, though.
