Is there a nice way to do this? I've worked with the recruiter before, but the people I'm actually freelancing for can't seem to understand that I'm working for them outside of my 40-hour/week day job. It's no longer worth the headache.

Say just that after you complete your current project. "My day job is too demanding, I can no longer work with you." Most people don't like working with moonlighters anyway.

    • Yeah, I made damn sure everyone involved understood the moonlighting thing before I started.

errrr..how about just letting them know that you're available for so and so hours and that you have a FT job and aren't available during those hrs?

I'm in the same boat. I'll tell them I'm not interested in working with them anymore. I can't stand clients that ask for changes without telling you what they want you to change. Use your creativity they say!! I do, and they say it's not it!! DAMN IT!!

Just tell them it ends as soon as possible and they need to find someone to take over. Then hold on to the work files until they've settled up whatever you agree is a fair payment for outstanding work under the circumstances.

Well, glad to see I'm not the only one with freelance clients who can't always figure things out.

you can always just lie to them. tell them your computer just took a dump and you don't have the cash to fix it for like, however long it takes them to move on.
