Trump Took $17 Million in Insurance for Damage Few Remember

Donald Trump said he received a $17 million insurance payment in 2005 for hurricane damage to Mar-a-Lago, his private club in Palm Beach, but The Associated Press found little evidence of such large-scale damage.

Two years after a series of storms, the real estate tycoon said he didn't know how much had been spent on repairs but acknowledged he pocketed some of the money. Trump transferred funds into his personal accounts, saying that under the terms of his policy, "you didn't have to reinvest it."

Donald Trump forced his ‘Apprentice’ staff to work the day after Hurricane Sandy hit

Trump's requirement that his staff arrive in-person stands in contrast to his brags at the time about how much he was helping out after the storm, taking credit for letting storm refugees shelter in Trump Tower even though he was required to do so by law.

Here's a good question: does anyone think that not voting in this election is good or bad? I don't have an opinion on it really, but the thought crosses my mind simply because we aren't required to vote. If a complete dislike of all major party candidates exists, and a third party vote is a waste, in some ways I feel like it sends a message that both parties need to change dramatically.

Like I said, not sure exactly where I sit on this one, but I think about it often.

    • true but ironic also as I think this election will have a huge turnout.fadein11
    • i you do not vote, you're even more screwed.ApeRobot
    • It's almost like a no-vote is a boycott "vote"Krassy
    • I think not voting is simply seen as apathy. is there a "none of the above" option in the usa?Gnash
    • and if enough people boycott by not voting, there should be a threshold number where elections need a do over with new (better qualified) candidatesKrassy
    • 3rd party votes are not a waste. That's a sad smear of democracy. They still need 5% to get campaign dollars for 2020.omg
    • "the election is rigged" - Tutopian
    • ("but not if I win" - T)monospaced

    • @whatthefunk he's asking "If a complete dislike of all major party candidates exists"Krassy
    • ..and not if a vote for his choice would make a difference (in a swing or not state)Krassy
    • Precisely. I feel like low turnout via many not voting sends a message that both parties need to get it together.mg33
    • And it avoids the "lesser of two evils" logic which is often really not the right way to vote.mg33

    ^

Growing up in a 3rd world country changes your perception a little bit when it comes to "democracy" and "making a change through voting".

If it was a clean and transparent election, of course not voting is bad. Specially if you are going to complain about who got elected, tax increase, etc, etc...
