firewire cable for one.

go on...

We use either Phase One or Aperture, connecting the cam to the computer so you can see the images as you are shooting..

Does light room have that capability? what connection do you need? would it auto recognize the camera?
- nicnichols0
I have never used light room, but yes, I think it does stream right from the camera (could be wrong here..)
We use Phase One for 90% of the work, as we use Phase One backs on the cameras, so it all 'talks to each other' better..
But I have used Aperture with my D300 and laptop, and it works pretty well if you need to be tethered to a computer..what kind of set up are you looking for?

more like d700 + wireless to laptop. (wireless strobe to follow)

Yes, I've done it with lightroom, it's called a threaded connection. You just set up a 'watched folder' and lightroom imports on the fly/
- sorry, tethered.Jnr_Madison
- ok cool i shall try it.. did you use just firewire?********
- yes, firewire for the win.Jnr_Madison
- Oh wait, I think I just used the cable that came with my camera.Jnr_Madison
- ahhh ok i need to find my box********

So you want to shoot non-tethered to your laptop? haven't tried that yet.. but would recommend the pocket wizards http://www.pocketwizard.com/
to fire the strobes.. we have one transmitter on the cam, and a few on the powerpacks..

yah i seen set ups where the cam was wireless and images on laptop on the fly, but it was a hassy i think...
- nicnichols0
we run hassy's with phase one backs, but still have to firewire them.. we're shooting 80mb files, sometimes rapidly, and wireless wouldn't be able to cope..
... but that would be freaking sweet

that makes sense, maybe it was something else, when i asked the photographer and his assistants, i just get snotty remarks.

For Canon users, I had a problem with the EOS utility when I was trying to auto import into lightroom's watched folder, if I remember correctly you've got to de-select it for managing imported pics.
