Isn't there a way to copy and paste something in IL but have it paste a specific distance from the original like 2 inches below for instance?

    nope,
just paste in place, click v + enter and chose the distance you want it to move to, then smile

I dont think so. There is only paste or paste in front/back etc

I think you would have to make a blend and set the blend options to specified distance "2 inches"

I can't think of another way....maybe you can set the paste distance in the preferences somewhere?

    • no need for blending , just use the smart positioning

Ctrl/Function + F to paste in place, then shift + cursor in the direction you want. I think you can set the 'shifted' cursoring distance in your prefs.

    • My bad - you can only set the single keyboard increment.detritus

like detritus said, use the paste in place option,

but then use the x/y coordinates in the top toolbar to move it a specified distance.

that's the most precise way, but not quite like you wanted.

you can move the original, duplicate it, then use the "transform again" option, which will move the new object the same as you did the first.

    • yes, transform in top left menu bararterie

cmd/ctrl+shift+m, just make sure you select copy at the end.

    • you can also hit cmd+d as per epete22 post below after your desired move to have continuous duplication.nspire

select your object, hold down the option key and drag your option the distance that you want it apart hit command d and it will duplicate that object for that distance as many times are you want

    • there should be periods in theirepete221/2
lol. that's also a good option, but for exact location, the move option is most beneficial!nspire2/2

Command D is completely necessary and should be in all programs. But the move function is an every closer answer to what you want. you can even get the dialogue to come up if you have an object selected and you hit the enter key. I wish Flash was half as user-friendly as Illustrator.

You can also double click on the selection tool while object is marked.. Brings up the same dialogue box.
