can i host the FLV some where else? and host the rest of the site at current?

the Flash media server is only for the flv files, all other you can host anywhere else.

actually if you'll host small flv files, you can use any normal http server, it won't be much different than fms

so i can have SWF files for the site at X hosting (slow) and get a Flash Media Server at some where else and have the main SWF call out the FLV at that faster server?

d, we just set up FMS with edgecast, give them a call, they'll set you up with a demo account to do some testing. Really good people so far. I've contacted a bunch of them and they're CDN seemed to be the best bang for the buck. but they've got a 1 year commitment. uvault.com has month to month but only 3-4 servers around the country, whereas edgecast has like 16 or something.

What is FMIS? I mean i am getting confused with FMS vs FMIS... is FMIS more toward real time interaction from user to user?
i just need straight FLV streaming server thats pretty good on speed..

adobe released 2 servers:
flash media streaming server = basically, only for video streaming (the cheaper and one you need)
flash media interactive server = for video, and interactive apps, such as chat, etc...

first of all you need a really good input movie.
than i'd encode them as mp4 files, flash cs3 is able to streaming this format.
i'd say that the bandwidth will depends on your target audience connection badwidth.
i guess most hosting services will offer you fms and fmis for almost the same price..
