  I heard that about face is good
  I heard windows vista guidelines book is coming out
  but that stuff is online might wanna check that out first
  explore and think, if you explore pixels from 0 to 16x16 you will have a good understanding of glyphs, might wanna explore that matrix glyph

  There are a couple of books by robert hoekman that are good, as well as Dont Make Me Think, by Steve Krug and 37S book, Defensive Design for the Web.
