Custom AJAX Map 33 Responses

Does anyone know of any frameworks or tutorials on how to build a custom interactive AJAX-y map?
Everything I've found is some kind of link with Google or Yahoo Maps, which isn't what I want.
I guess say you wanted to do a map of a shopping centre for example, with all the stores. And have things like tooltips for each store, clicking on a text link to take you to a specific point on the map, switches to turn on and off icons for amenities. That kind of thing.
Cheers

That to me looks like it's just making a desktop app out of Yahoo Maps. What I need is something to have my own map, not Yahoo's or Googles, to put on a web page.

i've used the google maps api ,mostly for mashups, and think its pretty intuitive. however, i recently asked myself the same question that you posted above and came across this article on alistapart. hope it helps.
