Breaking Bad will be back in a scant few months. That should tide you over.

just knocked out the entire three seasons in two weeks. by far the best show i've ever seen with the wire being a very close second. wish there were more dramatic period shows like this - a perfect era too, and i think the third season depicted the kennedy assasination pretty well. kinda reminded me of 9-11.

Season 2's being repeated in the UK .. would it be stupid to start watching now? - should I definitely watch season 1 first?
- yes watch it. good showsofakingbanned
- would you watch season 1 first though?lukus_W
- You dont have too.
although I dont think i would want to watch season 1 after watching season 2Machuse - thx - will prob dip into s2, was just wondering if s1 is essential (with the wire I reckon it was)lukus_W

I wish AMC would replay them once in a while. They never seem to show them after the original airing. Anyone know where to find the first few episodes of Season 3?

Wasn't there was just season 3 marathon today (Jan 2)? Pretty sure.

I love this show - absolutely amazing. Great characters, stories, smart, sassy .. great fashion. I can't believe it's taken three series for me to pick up the hint and start watching.
Completely different to The Wire - I'd say it's equally as good. Neither show has obvious flaws which detract from their greatness.
- I love Mad men as well; keep watching it doesn't have the staying power of the wire honestlyMachuse

Yes. Watch season 1 fiirst! watch from the beginning....It's like a novel - all the parts are connected in a very intricate way...and you will not get the enjoyment unless you watch that way.

I actually think it's actually quite profound in subtle ways.
It's showing a period which can be seen as a dawn or enlightenment age.... the teenage years of modern society. Arguably much of the worlds problems (rampant commercialism, the vacuous pursuit of money, etc) can be seen as a direct reaction to the work of the advertising industry on Madison Avenue.
The adjustment and change that people in the show are experiencing is used to highlight this social change .. but while this progression could have been shown in quite an overtly allegorical way, the producers have managed to tie everything together with quite a lot of class and subtly.
In that sense the series on a macro-level can almost be seen in the same light as a coming of age / road movie - but with society as the main protagonist.

And I'm growing to love TV as a format - I think it's far better than film in some cases, because long term viewing allows relationship with the audience to develop overtime. Story arcs can progress slowly and can potentially reward the viewer far more than a 120min feature film. I don't think of TV as a cheap medium these days.

I have to disagree on the "subtlety." Roger Sterling subtle? Pete Campbell raping Peggy Olson, and then her ignoring she's pregnant? Freddy Rumsen getting completely hosed and pissing his pants and passing out before a big meeting? Jimmy Barrett?
A lot of the characters and plots seem straight out of soap opera.
- nor sure he 'raped' her. he pulled he hair, but that get done during sex, i've heard....twokids

Yeah, you might be right; but I'm thinking of this in terms of melodrama .. which is more to do with style. I reckon that the choice to ham-it-up a bit is a stylistic decision which adds to the overall greatness of the show. Maybe the period, in many people's minds, is referenced by a lot of melodrama's that were being produced at the time.
But perhaps I'm being too forgiving...?

Series 3 starting on BBC4 Wednesday with a double-bill.

Really don't see what the big deal is about the show....it's ok

@marychain
if you're watching it during the regular season, i can imagine the pace being a bit slow. if you watch an entire season over the course of a few days, it's much more enjoyable, especially since the arcs are so long and the true payoffs are generally near the end of the season.or maybe it's just not your thing. for television, i think it's good.
