I want to make sure I am getting my translation right of a phrase for a tattoo. I am having my first girl in a couple days, and I want to include some good ole latin in the piece. I went to one of those word translators, and I want to confirm that it is giving me the right translation. I know that sometimes it translates words independant of one another, and not as a phrase. In some cases a phrase is translated differently. So, that said, can anyone help me out?

The main point is, I want the phrase "First Child" or "First Baby" to be translated to Latin, but I want to make sure it is conjugated for a female, so I dont have people who know latin see my tattoo and ask my why I named my little boy Ella.

So, just primigines would mean first born girl?
When I search google with that word, it comes back with no real results. Can you explain how you arrived at that translation? Thanks btw. I just want to make sure since this is going to be inked on my arm forever.

I have no idea how to say first born girl. It has to be a tense thing though. Because in latin the way they end words us is for boy a is for girls and es if its gender neutered. I am pretty sure of that.

Funny, I was just wondering the other day what the Latin for "good design" is. I couldn't find the noun for "design" in my crappy little Latin dictionary or online. Anyone?

    • there wasn't a name for it then. Italian "disegno" as an independent practice only occurred in 1600.Corvo1/6
Yeah, I figured as much, but I also figured that we'd have a neo-Latin term for it by now.dog_opus2/6
maybe there is. design means "planning".Corvo3/6
prob is "designo" = mark out, describe. define upon purpose. still used in portuguese = desígnio = goal.Corvo4/6
like the dictionary def of "designation" in English.Corvo5/6
      Thanks, Corvo!dog_opus6/6

I know little of Latin but I think the better sentence is:

    [name*] filia primogenita .

    * if you can translate her name into Latin the phrase will look better, like:

Constantia filia primogenita <- that means Constance was the first-born child and was female.
