Yes, if you build up your portfolio it can really pay off. Don't expect the money to roll in over night though.

There are people on the site who make well over six figures. iStock paid out over $21 million in royalties last year.

I've got a handful of stuff to istockphoto and I keep submitting. You only make money when people download and I'm new to it so I haven't made anything yet.

    • How long have you had stuff up ninja.2cents1/3

can you submit anything or is there some kind of review process that the work goes through?

    • The review process is very strict. I would get really mad when stuff was rejected at first, but is rejected for a reason.2cents1/6
And once you get a handle of what will get rejected you avoid uploading it.2cents2/6

There is a review process, I think they also specify what kind of images they're looking for at any given time.

does it cost to upload? Do they review the pics?

    • It's free to sign up and contribute. You have to go through an approval process to be able to upload.2cents

I've been thinking about doing this as well.

Does anyone use a different service for submitting photos and getting paid?

Anyone make money off vector stuff? Seems like vector would be more desirable to a lot of people.

    • Vector = bling, bling!2cents1/4
what are their guidelines for vector art?epigraph2/4
The subject of what you're submitting and the quality at which it was crafted. No sloppy line work.2cents3/4
Also has to be simple, no transparent overlays as some people downloading have ancient copies of AI.2cents4/4

yeah, vector is right up my alley, I have a ton of little things from stuff I've done.

It makes me laugh to see people have downloaded vector spatters though. Ink, paper, scanner, Illustrator. =)

    • They won't accept anymore splatters, the place is overrun with em.2cents

They have Flash on there too. I'm wondering, anyone if you have to sign over exclusive rights to them on the work you sell?

    • Only if you become an exclusive contributor. You can still use it for personal, just can't sell it on other sites.2cents1/2
Exclusive contributors make more coin. Higher percentages.2cents2/2

If you guys want to post up some vector stuff I can give you an idea as to whether it will get accepted or not. Good vector can be a big money draw.

Hey 2cents, as someone who apparently has had some success with istockphoto would you mind taking critiquing the set I have up so far? I'd love to know how to improve. Any other comments also welcome.
