I had to pass through a airport-style security thing at West Norwood today - complete with armed police.
Anyone else seen these?

These weren't any old armed police either. They had semi-automatics they use at airports.
But yeah. West Norwood....

and it wasn't voluntary? that's a bit strange.
- ********0
not voluntary. They had the other exits/entrances closed.

happened in east ham the other day... but then someone was stabbed at the station a few days before... nice!

id be all for this in railway stations/tube stations everywhere to help cut down on knife crime and terrorism.
its CERTAINLY more effective than them just stopping random people and searching them. because to do this they have to be seen to be stopping people completely at random - i.e commuters, grannies, chavs, blacks, white, asian etc etc
- They should bring back profiling.********
- It works for El-Al...detritus
- They should bring back profiling.

is profiling when they just go after a certain demographic?
even though thats the proper thing to do to cut down on knife crime etc, its seen as prejudice against the demographic

I suspect I'd get right on some Policeman's tits if I was forced to go through one of these things - I mean, I doubt I could muster a convincing argument to dampen their demand, but I'll be damned if I'm going through one of those, when just walking down the street. It'll be another afternoon in gaol for me, I suspect, should I happen upon one.
- i was randomly stopped and searched in edinburgh waverley under antiterrorist law23kon

Then they'll have good reason to stop and search you detritus.
Which you would prefer?

Ive posted my story before but one day i was at waverley station in edinburgh meeting a workmate first thing in the morning - about to catch a train to dundee.
Im minding my own business when two policemen come over and tell me they are about to search me under section whatever of the anti-terrism act.
As I looked around I then noticed that other police were stopping other commuters at random.
I didnt have anything to hide so let them go through my pockets and bag. answered questions about who i was, where i worked, what i was doing etc etc.At the end of it i got issued a little slip informing me of the law id been stopped under. the policeman had ticked some of the boxes that applied i.e bag searched.
However - there was a tickbox for "INTIMATELY SEARCHED" - which im quite glad the policemen didnt put on their rubber gloves and do.So they can definitely use that kind of search too under this new anti-terrorist law - so you can go being a cheeky bastard to them if you want Detritus and see where it gets you. (probably hobbling home afterwards).
So yeah I did have a problem with being stopped and searched as did all the rest of the people being stopped because all looked like commuters going to work - definitely NOT the kind of people that fall under the Terrorist or Knife Carrying demographic.
To me it was just a waste of police time and resources. They SHOULD be allowed to target the actual demographic but then they are seen as being racist or against certain religions or harrassing people who wear certain clothes.
In reality we all know that it'd solve the problem - but you simply cant get away with that kind of targetting in such a politically correct society.
