Freelancers and small shops, what do you think of market for the past couple of months?
Do you experience a decrease or increase in inquiries and projects you're getting in comparison to last year and beginning of this or does everything stay pretty much stable for you?
How do you find budgets of your clients to be lately (great/ok/tight/too tight)?
What type of work have you been doing lately more than anything and is it the same type of work you've been doing mostly last year?
Is word of mouth enough for you or do you find a need to engage in various self promotion acts? When responding, please include your location. You don't need to answer every question, but the more you do the better picture we'll have.
Good luck to everyone!

Slammed here too. I mostly do branding, and print collateral. I am finding that my clients are consistent with the work they give me. I haven't seen the market hit my sector of work. I'm in San Diego, California and do invitations for parties and weddings, along with freelance design. People are still spending money. Good for me.

For the established freelancer it is a booming time, because of: reputation, networking establishments and understanding the landscape.
I have been to pretty well freelancing since September 2007, but I have observed budget cuts on projects and clients asking for more and paying less due to the economy and growing competition from other creative types getting layed-off or down sized from advertising and design studios across the country.
I have worked through two recessions in th epast and predict it will get a lot worst before in the upcoming months.

I'm having a really quiet spell at the moment, I know the market is alright I just don't seem to be getting the calls from agencies at the moment which is a bit shit I guess.
Anyone need any resource designing/building xhtml/css type stuff feel free to give me a shout.

On my side is being pretty steady. I work part-time at a agency and freelancing after work. So far is going well I guess, however I do see a lack of budget on different projects. I'm located in the very far south of the US, south Texas, that is. But, my clients are mainly from up-north.
