Seriously... I don't get it. If he really wants to make a statement why doesn't he tie himself up and starve to bring attention to the millions of starving people around the world?
Poor dog... :(

fucking bullshit. I was so full of rage when I read this a little while back. It has been posted here before, but deserves to be reposted again and again until this d-bag and the gallery that hosted this shiite both die miserable deaths.

That was last year. Since then it has somewhat evolved into this:

"Hello everyone. My name is Guillermo Vargas Habacuc. I am 50 years old and an artist. Recently, I have been criticized for my work titled "Eres lo que lees", which features a dog named Nativity. The purpose of the work was not to cause any type of infliction on the poor, innocent creature, but rather to illustrate a point. In my home city of San Jose, Costa Rica, tens of thousands of stray dogs starve and die of illness each year in the streets and no one pays them a second thought. Now, if you publicly display one of these starving creatures, such as the case with Nativity, it creates a backlash that brings out a big of hypocrisy in all of us. Nativity was a very sick creature and would have died in the streets anyway."
At first I was outraged but after reading this, I'm unsure how I feel. I don't think putting the dog on show has made any difference, the people at the "viewing" seemed to be ignoring the animal in the corner while laughing and joking with glasses of wine. In a manner they've probably become acustomed to when seeing stray dogs in the street.
He just really exploited the dieing dog to boost his status IMO.

maybe he is questioning the people there who stand by and take it thats its art . "if its in a gallery its art" .. morons . reminds me of what happend to that poor guy who came off his bike this week and people just drove past him and left him to die. someone even ran over his legs. and just left him there no 999 call or nothing. humans are sick.

I think calling it art is stupid... although I think his point is solid. It's a little radical (um... letting a dog starve in a gallery...) but he does have a point: had he not done it, nobody would have given a shit about that dog or any other dog in the street. So I guess while the point is valid, the execution and presentation was just un-called for and unnecessary.

The difference is the chances the dog has are reduced from slim to none. Tying the dog up captivates it, while on the street it is free to eat garbage. The shock is the death paired with the lack of freedom/liberty. Are we screaming foul play at the dog's death, or it's condition beforehand?

This is not only despicable but also sad. There are actual companies sponsoring this asshole. There are museums supporting his exhibitions. and there are people that attend to the museums and galleries were this M****r F**** is presenting his "ART". Since when in order to prove a point people need to do exactly the opposite of what they are preaching about? If this is a way to prove a point, people against Dead Penalty should go out and kill people in an art gallery? ARE WE OUT OF OUR MINDS?! I guess KARMA will find its way to Prove its point sooner or later. Or at least I hope so.
