I think you're out of luck for true surround sound since the signal won't be encoded as Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, or DTS. I believe Dolby Pro Logic II, Dolby Surround and the likes can process a stereo signal into five playback channels if your receiver has that option. I've had mixed results with the latter and usually end up listening in stereo in that case, because it sounds better than the processed signal.
Oh fuck. I never make any sense...
