"The Internet, sponsorships, all kinds of 3D icons — none of that existed when Xerox adopted its old logo," said Maryann J. Stump, senior director of brand strategy for Interbrand. "And you can do animation with a symbol that you just can't do with a wordmark."
She should never work again

Rubbish. I can live with the logotype (although I have a fondness for the old type) - a bit similar to Kodak's new logotype though, but that X sphere is fucking horrid.
- every time you post, i think you are the motocross guy i did a site for haha!
http://levelthirteen…lvl_13 - haha! I HAVE crashed motorised 2 wheeled vehicles before. All I need now is the hat with the flaps ;)Nathan_Adams

Sponsorship didn't exist then? right-o. I would have thought a 3D flashy logo would be LESS suited to sponsorship, given the variety of situations it would have to be used in...

I think the new type isn't quite faithful to a xerox machine brand. it looses the mechanical character present in the other type (which was very distinguish) and could be anything from a telephone company to a greek basket sports company.
- Its not about machines anymore, its about providing solutions dude. Solutions.ian
- omg really?! what went wrong?********
- i guess they deserve that logo then.********

Type is ok, that device is terrible...
What is it with designers thinking they need more than just a wordmark and adding another unnecessary element?
See: http://www.wacom.com for perhaps the worst example.
- not *another* unnecessary element, just *an* unnecessary element. Bah, you know what I mean...Raniator

It's 'orrible
Sorry, I can't be any more constructive

no, no, why. I personally don't care how good a new logo can be, a brand like XEROX has logo well known to everyone. The term xerox has brought its own meaning, such as Kleenex has done to tissue paper.
Anyway, their only choices is retain the old logo or tweak the original logo, can't just scrap it for another.

Quick! We need to cash in on this 2.0 stuff, so give us something 3D! But it has to look like an X! Only softer! Make it shiny, so people know we're hip!

The problem with all these bevelled 3D redesigns (AT&T, UPS, etc.) is that the old logos were timeless...the new ones will look dated within five years. What's next, IBM?
- if IBM goes 3d I will hang myself********
- designer, u know i'm sending out thepetition to IBM to do just that... nothing personal i just want u to follow up on the promise.pr2

Typeface = fine. X-sphere = not.

Yeah at least with the pixel X kid of says hey look at am I'm taking something from somewhere and making another.
The new one to me says hey we're going to get our hands on everything and slowly squeeze what ever we can get out of you.
New logo = Fail!

srsly.. x box!
and the x on the sphere is lopsided.
