Starting up a company is not an otion for this short term gig so I will need to run through an umbrella company.
Has anyone done this and have any recomendations on who to use?
Two that have been suggested are Parasol and FirstContact.
Any comment on these?

parasol has been recommended to me, too, but unfortunately i went with charterhouse. do NOT use them, they're horrible. but parasol seems good. make sure you get a dedicated account handler and that you have their direct line number. this is your money you're talking about. don't let them dick you around.

para - so you effectively work freelance but get the jobs coming in from the umbrella comp then?

yerah, in a nutshell

nah, i'm freelance, the recruitment agency does my bookings and the umbrella company processes my payroll. before the first of april, the umbrella company could process you via your own registered company and pay you in dividends from teh profits of that comp, rather than via paye, which means more money and expense claims. however, as of 1 april, you now can no longer do that, so it's a bit less cash. boo.

I have been using 1st Contact for over a year now and they are pretty good. They are always helpful if you have any questions or issues etc.
