So I just bought a sweet Kluge Letterpress 10x15 machine. It will be going in the garage and I will soon be a master pressman.
All I need is a little help getting started. Any ideas (books, mentors, anything). I am really excited to do some art pieces, but don't really have any idea where to start.
Any letterpress people in here?

my sis just bought one, she talks about it all the time here on her blog:

might be worth considering taking a course if you dont have any experience yet with letterpress. I'd say to check colleges/universities in your area (hopefully there's something strong near you).

thanks for the info, karlo, you mates do some really cool stuff. j_red, your sis has some really great stuff as well. I really like the shower invite with all the lemonheads in the boxes, it looks amazing. letters2, I will look for some classes here in San Diego, California because I don't have any experience. The only experience I do have is watching the pressman run my invitation jobs, but it looks like a lot is going on when he does it.
I will keep my eyes open for more opportunities. Thanks.

j_red, your sister's blog is pretty cool. i, too, really like the lemonheads invitations.

way way cool:) Lovely cards those were. How did you come by this lettepress? Thinking of getting one, since no one in this country(Singapore) uses one..

You asking this question made me really curious too. Mostly because I just saw a dude from Hatch Show Print in Nashville speak. I found this link... looks like a good resource.

I actually found it on briarpress.org. It just so happens that a guy was selling his whole letterpress shop, but had a really nice one in his garage at home. He kept it specifically for invitations. I am really excited to get printing. I'll have to do something special for my fellow nt'ers.

Sounds wonderful. But you got lucky:) briarpress.org is a good resource tho. thanks for the link!

Yeah, I got really lucky. Not only is it a good machine, but I only have to have movers truck it 30 miles to put it in my garage. When it's all said and done, I will be running that thing for less than $3000. Not too shabby if you ask me.

Sweet pickup; I hope to someday get one for myself. Here are a couple things I read recently...

Those are some great links IRNlun6. Thanks for that. I found that speaking with my local printers helped find letterpress shops that I didn't even know existed. It was a great way to go meet some new people that are doing letterpress as a career.

photobusta, i just got home and will check my email. I should be recieving the press next week. I think it would be great to get to know the press and do some things. I will look for your email.
iamstillalive, thanks for the great links. I am going to spend some time tomorrow checking them out in depth. I already ordered a couple letterpress books from nagraph, so I should be a master pressman in no time.
