Does anyone here have a hand gun?
Do any of you have carry permits and take them with you when you go on a road trip or photography mission etc?
The reason I ask is I found out that a lot of US photographers I talk to online do take them when they go out photographing.

"Personally, I think even a civilian with a lot of training (non-military, non-police) are not going to know the first thing about handling their gun when conflict ACTUALLY arises. You're scared, your adrenaline is pumping and things are happening fast... there's just a lot of opportunity for people to get shot when they shouldn't, or the wrong person to get shot, or an innocent bystander to get shot, for the criminal to end up with your gun, or to even shoot yourself. Jeez, even the police accidentally shoot people more often than we like to hear about."

I always carry one of these in my back pack:
it is legal, you dont need a permit, they are pretty easy to get and if you know how to use it, it is highly unlikely that the old lady will get up again after you stomp her head open because she just wanted ask you what time it was, but you were to paranoid and thought he just wanted to beat you upp for no reason.

I have a Glock 17 with me whenever I'm driving something nice.
It has saved me from a knife carrying psyco who wanted to steal my car at a stoplight, and 15 hooligans when I happened to pass a stadium right after their team lost. I got it when one of my best friends was shot in the head 5 hours into his childhood dream of owning a Ferrari...

as far as guns go, i guess it must depend upon where you live. around here, EVERYONE has guns.
one local community made a bit of a stir last year when they wanted to mandate that every resident possess at least one firearm.
hell, i have a fund raiser ticket hanging on my fridge right now that gives away a handgun, shotgun, or rifle everyday for three months. (haven't won anything, yet).
handle them safely, teach your kids and, oh yeah... don't break into my house. :)

With government like ours, can you really blame anyone for owning a gun?
