  The Cartier logotype, was it drawn especially for Cartier or is there a script typeface on which it is based?

  It's a mix,

  the body is a script and the C is a serif.

  the c is to minimal to be a true script.

  ask on the typophile.com message board for similars, I can't think of anything.
