Hi -
I've a client who wants a Word doc linked to from a Flash anim.
It's a registration form for an event, and they want the recipient to fill it in on their PC so it can be faxed back.I've tried to persuade them not to do this (no luck) - but am I right in thinking there's little control over what happens when people click the link?
ie. there's no guarantee that it will open in Word or even cause an Open/Save prompt?
Cheers.

why not create a word editor sort of thing in a flash so they edit/add whatever they want and make it sendable via php, way easier and clean. maybe i m gettin this wrong, could this work for your client?

Quite possibly, but there just isn't the time... usual story. It's a pretty complex form and they want to go live today...
damnit.

download one of them free email senders with php via flashkit.com or somewhere, edit it and make it editable in the form format your client asks, upload , test the php done, not a big deal i guess, good luck dude

Why not transform it to a Flashpaper document. Embed that Flashpaper SWF in a new document and open that in a new browser window or popup. If they have Flash (which they need to view the site) the can also view this document and print it.
Or you could go with a PDF version...

yup, but please - go ahead and make the task take way more time than you can afford and use a fancy technology to achieve roughly the same results but with the added bonus of missing your deadline and not getting paid. woop woop!!

microsoft offers a free reader here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloa…if you're worried, add a "you need this app. to view" blurb with that link.

Yeah that pretty much resolved it! OK cheers people. I had some dumb client hurdles to jump but it's OK now. They have realised Word is not a browser plug-in.
Have to say I liked the bile and vitriol more than the solutions...
must be Monday!
