New online campaing launches at PacSun Design and development was done entirely inhouse over the course of 7 months.
We conducted approximately 50 usability studies and based much of our new design and development on that research.

god i hate pacsun... the cdn equivalent is west49... unfortunately they are a necessary evil as more and more core skate shops go belly up.
on the C1RCA front... its always spelt all caps with a "1" not an "i" and i don't know here you got the image for the MA207 blk/red but its wrong... the MA207 has a "C" stripe on the side, not a C1RCA icon.
just thought i should let you know.

yeah I noticed that the other day.
50 usability studies?! How many did you really do - and what was your process?
have to say that graphically I think it is rather weak .
Links and menus are all over the place.
The mix and match is bloody confusing, and also, if you will allow me, pretty lame.
I do however, like the way you have done the shoes section, although after all is said and done, you cannot choose to sort by a specific colour, price-range, or company.
These are all issues that would ahve been flagged if you had done proper user research.
User Experience = poor.
- jevad0
and it took you 7 months to do that?!
damn
- cvirus0
ouch, jevad.
i think it looks OK...it's all CSS and loads fast, which is nice, and I know how a lot of those major projects have too many people involved and you have to meet everyone's requirements.
were all those usability studies really necessary, though?
- johndiggity0
reminds me of (mt).
- jevad0
"and you have to meet everyone's requirements."
the only requirements you need to meet are the user's...
- jevad0
to be brutally honest it just looks dated...really dated...
- cvirus0
"the only requirements you need to meet are the user's..."
tell that to management...the one's paying for it.

The usability studies covered a wide range of scenarios including checkout flow and an entire reorg of the data and application structure. The previous design we had (done by Juxt) proved to be very confusing and difficult to navigate by our average demo. The majority of the time spent on this project was political persuasion. That's what comes when working with a $20 million site for a $1.3 billion company, everyone wants a piece. Frankly, I'm happy we were able to launch with 75% of the content from our original concepts.

I actually like it quite a bit. I agree on the nav though-being everywhere. From the main page the bottom nav is much heavier than the top, which is deceiving. As far as the "shopping experience" goes-i think it cuts to the chase. Everything is easily navigable and lays out quite a bit of product on one page. clean. I think the Photo treatment through each section is great too: clear, bright, happy bullshit fluff that makes me think "damn, if i just wear these clothes i'll get laid hourly."

Did you do personas and case studies?
- jevad0
Be interested to hear how many people order from the site rather than just using it to see whats in stock then heading down to the nearest shop to make sure it fits.
There is a pac sun in every mall here...

Much of the research on usability was based on Kelly Goto and Jakob Nielsons model. It was thorough and objective. The case study is still being compiled for presentation.

Did you do personas?!

the quality of this image sucks:

Good point Jevad, you're right. Most customers do shop on our site for information rather than product. But I can say that our online sale conversion rate ranks very high when compared with other apparel retailers.

(Jan 28 05, 12:14)"As long as you can assure management that providing the right user experience will yield a high ROI then you have nothing to worry about.

ok I'll just come out and say it... it looks like shit. Should have calmed down on the usability studies and just done something that represents your clients. Cause this doesn't.
Anthony Tanaka used to be over there you know him?

i really hope you fix that C1RCA shit... fuckin pisses me off when we spend all this money and do tons of work to build a strong brand awareness and then chump stores like pacsun don't even take the time to make sure its right.
- jevad0
sorry - I didn't mean to piss on your parade
btw you build the user modela nd case studies from the personas.
