I'm currently working at Johnson Banks here in London, with Michael Johnson, the previous president of D&AD. Good to get some feedback from some other designers

Why is Steve Vai a God for all guitar players I know????

Morning Josh, should you not be working?
- Baskerville0
Yeah, those tracks are pretty old! I just had some spare webspace so I thought I'd use it. I pretty much just play jazz now (I've grown up now) maybe I'll put some john schofield covers on there!
Plus all 80s guitarists have to have gross airbrush covers, it's the law! Doesn't stop him being pretty innovative musicallly, he played for Frank Zappa for god's sake. If you doubt his musical knowledge check this out:

I second that.. ..
maybe how could such recognized guitarrist like Steve Vai go for a cover like that??
- kodap0
...I was just curious about all these ravings on guitars/ heavy-metal community..
i don't doubt his skills.. as I've heard a lot about the guy.
..
as well as dream theater's drummer ..not my likes but yeah... whateva, I respect

now way josh, I know he's a supreme talent, and he's bound to have an ego the size of yorkshire.
just not my cuppa
you should try Karates' last two albums for sophisticated/avant garde/jazz/blues/tight as/decent covers

I also design things as well as playing guitar among other instuments (I knew putting music on my site was a misktake)
- kodap0
noooooo..
keep posting and doing the things you like.. don't mind waht people rant.. and youre definately a good guitar player!it's truly a gift beeing able to be well recognized in different disciplines like music and design/fine art. like you are, keep it on!
just a tip relative to your music tracks:
post something yours and spontaneous, like small cuts of guitar experimentseveryone (with time) can make an exact copy of an earlier masterpiece, like steve vai's musics or the rachmaninov piece, but making your own is just possible after going through this learning process from copying others.
I'm probably beeing redundant but your "humbleness" will kill you with what you just said

don't be shy

Thanks Kodap. I had to choose design school over music school, so painting/drawing and music are now just hobbies. But it's good to have things that influence other areas of your life and work. Keeps you well rounded.
I went to Lisbon last year with a typographer called Phil Baines to document photographically all the amazing signage and shop front lettering in the city, there's going to be an exhibition of it in Lisbon soon.

there's very little in there.. some nice stuff..
but ideas in abundance???
come on.
- de4k0
ok Dutchy, I was little excitable,
but what josh has got there is so lucid.
but what do I know.

that's the first website i've ever seen with 180 pt type on the home page... looks like his design career is about to blowup!
- Baskerville0
Speaking as a typographer, I'm sick of seeing 5pt arial/helvetica on so many websites. The front page is deliberately bright red and has large type, once you're inside things are the size you need.
As a side point, so many designers are afraid of large type. The solution to so many problems seems to be make everthing small and it will look nice, has anyone got any examples of large type managed really delicately?
- Baskerville0
Thanks robotron3k, you're right though.
Although I am thinking of actually designing the site properly some time, I hate all of the 'design' of it. But that's not really its purpose. I just made it in a day to show my work, instead of sending out print samples (saves me postage)
