- mrdobolina0
does it give you any errors, or just nothing?
- desmo0
no error messages. if i just leave it alone for 5min or so, it'll give me disc read error.
it sounds like the ps2 is killing a small rodent or something! im pissed cuz i cant play NBA LIVE anymore.

You might want to look into getting a new laser. they sell online for about 60 dollars and it'll bring your ps2 back to life.
If you used your ps2 to play dvd movies for a long time that i'll kill your laser even faster.
- Mal0
It's dead I tells ya. Happened to mine too.

I had the same problem as you. All I did is clean the laser with a Q-TIP ans some rubbish alchool. Pretty easy to do.
Good Luck!

thats the link taco, I actually had to adjust that gear inside the ps2. It works fine now. sony warranty is only 90 days anyway, so voiding it dont mean a damn thang.
- nu0
All true. Sometimes after a lot of use the laser can get out of alignment and some of the gears need ajusting. Also getting something like a disc cleaning system is a good idea.
Hope you can fix it. Hate to see a ps2 go to waste.

cool! thanks a lot guys.
ya i did use my ps2 for a lot of dvd movie watching. i didnt know that playing dvd's would kill the laser. thats pretty gay.
- nu0
Yah, it happened to me to. So I just got a new laser for about 60 dollars and just did the install my self.
And also picked up a cheap dvd player to avoid killing my PS2 again.

generally the lasers just weaken, tweak on that white gear and see what happens. I was pissed when I kept getting dre's, my ps2 would make this humming noise trying to read the disc and no dice. Be careful that you mark the gear in its original position and only turn it one click at a time. it may only need to be adjusted a hair. Wish you luck.

just buy teh new one.

yeah most of my games work but nhl 2003 has some issues I get disk errors alot, I don't have the base but when it's loading I hold it has if it did and it works fine after it loads I just set it back down
- smellvetica0
it happens when the disc is dirty, scratched, or usually if it's a home recorded one (if you have the ps2 chipped).
try a cleaning solution, or warm soapy water this works for cd's.
failing that.. wait and buy a psp or psx

Laser blown...it's old and worn, call up Sony, they used to replace your unit, not sure if they still do?
