Half of my books are sold. With the help of my wife, I managed to pack 500 parcels in the past 6 days. It was such an amount of work. Unwrapping, signing, bubble foil, book box, labels and then bringing all this with my Peugeot 208 to the post office which basically does not exist in Germany anymore. I brought the parcels to a 10sqm supermarket "Official DHL store". They were medium delighted, but I am so stoked to have half of the circulation gone. Had been impossible without my wife.

    • Your wife is golden, man. If one day you divorce, ask me for my number ;)OBBTKN

I just posted this story about the rarest record I have ever had on another forum but thought I'd share it here too as I rambled on about my back story, which you may not know (or care) about.

I started volunteering for a local cable radio station CRMK (Cable Radio Milton Keynes) in early 1991. I did a late night show from 1am to 3am for a few months but couldn’t keep such mad hours and luckily was soon moved to 10pm until midnight where I stayed for 32 years! My move to Scotland in 2020 made it easier to do a show for an Edinburgh based station so here I am, anyway... One of the great things I discovered doing a weekly radio show for a small station (remember it was on cable so I knew hardly anyone was actually listening as it probably took too much effort to connect a wire to a radio amp) but I didn’t care at all as I just love(d) fucking about with records and playing lots of dub, electronica and whatever the hell I fancied. I’d record my show on cassette and was advised to send them to promotion companies as they would be happy to send free records of a similar tip.

This snowballed to such an extent that within a year I was getting 20+ parcels of free records a week, mostly promos, white labels, interviews, coloured vinyl etc, it was just incredible. I wasn’t going to stop doing the show even when I wasn’t really in the mood or feeling inspirational that week so I just kept at it and for over 20 years the records then CD’s just kept rolling in. I pretty much kept most things, I have crates of promo CDR's in the garage (it’s time consuming just re-listening to them so they’re just sitting there) the records I have culled over the years, I donated hundreds back to the station if they were popular Indie bands, Supergrass, Radiohead etc, I’m sure I’ve let a lot of rare stuff go free, but hey ho. Most of the weird stuff on Warp, Ninja Tune and so on I did keep and I often sorted out on a deeper level.

It was whilst I was going through the 12″ singles I came across a hand spray painted record which just had the word Blowpop along the top. It was a white label with no other identifying info on it apart from the matrix number in the run-out grooves. I soon discovered it was one of only 100 sleeves spray painted by a Bristol based artist called Banksy. Realising it was probably worth a bit I thought I may as well stick the thing up on eBay then, and bidding went nuts. After a week it finished at £5,850 which today, 7 years later, is still a record price for a Banksy record sleeve. It was in near mint condition though and was bought by a French gallery who I assume still have it. I went on holiday with the kids to Spain that year and ended up more records of course and still have no regrets on letting it go, it had just sat quietly in my racks un-loved/ un-played since 1999.

A caveat to this story is that the guy who sent it to me via Zzonked Promotions in 1999 is now a friend on FB and when I mentioned this story he posted on my page saying how terrible I was for selling something he sent to me as a free promotion item. I apologised in the comments like a pathetic earthling and he replied “GOTCHA!” as he said he still has some copies himself that he had kept by. He said that when Banksy came into their offices they laid all the blank sleeves in lines on the floor and he just walked along them spraying away with his can & stencil and it wasn’t very glamourous and he had a mask on even then so they didn’t know who he was either.

Does anyone have any idea what those phone calls are where someone says "Hello" after you and then they either hang up or then say something else like "how are you" and then hang up. Totally robots, but i don't get what the gameplan is. they don't even try to scam or anything. technology is so weird sometimes.

yesterday afternoon, i thought spring was officially here when i saw a toy ball bounce over a roof, rolling into the driveway then street, being chased by a girl through the front door and her brother around through the side gate.

this morning, if the temperature doubles, it will still be freezing. I am happy to slow cook ribs today instead of shooting on location which according to weather.com will have dropped from 73°F yesterday, to 23°F by this afternoon.

    • Weather's all over the place here in Blighty too at the moment. Ostensibly- unseasonal bouts of good weather sprinked with days of near sub-zero chill.Nairn

Digging through 12"s today I came across this one by Mark Stewart & The Maffia which has old phone numbers from Adrian, Rusty and others written on the fold-out poster sleeve, can't remember how I came by it but as it's 40+ years old I guess those numbers don't ring no more!

    I'm "quiet quitting" my job.

I feel I'm underpaid, and my three best friends at the office left. Two got different jobs, and one just flat out quit. They work different roles and went to small companies, so no room for me to join.

I asked for more money and was denied.

My direct report is lazy and I'm tired of following up just to get things moving.

So I'm working less and just enough to keep people satisfied. And whatever takes too long, I can blame on my higher up.

No one has ever accused me of not doing my job.

re: hydro's police shooting range post

    Triggered a very hilarious memory.

    (not my photos)

That's the Cahaba Lily. It's an endangered riverflower that only grows in a few hard to reach places.

So way back when, a friend and I borrowed this bonk-ass 1980s rickety canoe from his aunt, loaded up with cameras, and set sail on we dubbed the SS Friday the 13th.

So we're fucking wobbling this total jalopy of a canoe, with a shit ton of film cameras and zero GPS. The streams we're on start getting narrower, shallower and faster. The dumbest question asked in the SS Friday the 13th was "Um.. do you think we're lost?"

We are in the middle of fucking nowhere at this point, and Gods be praised, in a small break in the treeline I spy a barbed wire fence to our port. Banked, and I jumped it to see if we had a reasonable egress.

Looked to my left, looked to my right. I'm in the middle of a row of shooting targets. I have accidentally broken into the back end of a police shooting range. I'm talking the ones with human targets that look like the male bathroom icon.

I jumped back so fucking fast, just screaming "GO GO GO", hyperventilating and not making any sense for another mile or so.

We come to another fucking barbwire fence on the port bank. With much, much more caution I crawl up and straddle the top. It's a fucking junkyard.

My friend: Why are you whistling?
Me in angry whisper tones: BECAUSE I'M LOOKING AT FUCKING JUNKYARD AND THEY MIGHT HAVE A DOG YOU FUCKING MORON.

They did not have a dog, and so we threw this massive metal canoe over the fence, and walked out through the front gate. The owners saw us and were too confused to confront two sweaty ass dudes in with camera gear hauling a canoe.

Found an empty lot and after some argument, it was agreed that I've been hopping fences all day, so it's on him to hitch a ride to pick up the truck that we launched from.

I flip over the canoe and hide underneath it, and I start hearing rings of thunder and thinking of how fucking stupid the headlines of my death are going to be.

"CANOE BOY THUNDERSTRUCK IN PARKING LOT", or just "LOOK AT THIS IDIOT" with a photo of my sizzled arm hanging out of the canoe.

He managed to get the truck. We did not manage to take a single fucking photo or even see a lily. Fun day.
