I always wondered which shop was responsible for that crap ass logo. Landor Assoc.
I'll bet they got paid BANK! that shit looks like some college project bullshit!
- chilaquil0
a bad college project bullshit from a lazy ass student.
either that, or done by the "desktop publisher" at kinko's

there should be a law against it... Some sort of design council should take action to prevent such low quality design in a such a big corporation... It's bad for the company, the shareholders, the customer, the country, design in general... my senses...etc...
- tusadre0
just no good.

their site doesn't list the logo in their portfolio. too embarrassed?
- chilaquil0
would YOU put that logo in your portfolio...? Think about it.
But I'm not sure it's necessarily bad for the company or the shareholders. They seem to be doing ok...
So how important is it that a logo look good? I mean really.

Landor did a pretty good job with 'H&R Block" so what went wrong with 'Verizon'.
- garrison0
you should all know from experience–how much input do you think they actually had in regards to the final brand..?
- Rementer0
garrison- i agree. i'll bet Bell Atlantic had a firm grasp on Landor's gonads the whole time.
- chilaquil0
but don't you think landor (if that's who did it) knows how to handle a difficult client? Otherwise ALL of their work would be crap.
The Verizon logo just really seems like they let some marketing guy play art director, and let him get away with it.
- garrison0
maybe they just split with the money and denied they ever did it, hence it not being on the website ;D
- phlojonaut0
how about the T-Mobile logo....
damn I hate that one.....
it just stinks
- ribit0
I think people underestimate the business value of a good logo(and all the other branding stuff that goes with it). Verizon does well IN SPITE OF the terrible logo...
Imagine if CocaCola had always had a crappy logo...they'd probably have done 'OK' too...
- chilaquil0
he he... lots of companies do exceedingly well in spite of having a butt ugly logo. Take a look at the logo for the mexican phone company:
(not to mention that site... ouch) Notice I say "the" mexican phone company because they're a monopoly and have no competition... So they've done well. They're like Mexico's version of Microsoft.
But in their case, it's waaaay too late to change it. It's been around forever.
- ribit0
but they could evolve it...
like Shell did... (before the all-new logo)
- MrDinky0
if a company keeps changing their logo, their brand efforts are being wasted.
it takes years for a large company to change their id
- chilaquil0
why...? it's not like you'll get more subscribers out of doing that... Or who cares if people perceive you as a tyrant monopoly... tough shit, if people don't like it, they can go with someone else... Oh.. wait. No they can't... Oops..

i dont think the verizon logo is all that bad, its actually branded very nicely, its not all that good either, but it is "safe" , butter than cingual"s gay ass logo, which will have to get a overhaul, while verizons logo 5 years from now will still be "ok
- cab2k40
ok i take that back i like the cingular logo.
- ribit0
you like the Verizon logo??!
which bit?.. the wonderful theme , or the high-quality 'this company has quality in everything it does' execution, or the 'so nice I want to lick it' personality?
- chilaquil0
I remember when that hand gesture meant "peace"
