okay, i know this isn't a car forum, but i figured you all are in to crazy tech toys, so help a brother out....
i'm looking for a radar/laser detector that will go inside my 2002 jetta and display in the dashboard. hopefully even beep through the stereo. maybe have a remote for the control of it. am i dreaming? anyone seen anything like this? is it effective?

I have a Blinder in my 2002 golf (that disturbs the laser). It works perfect!

When you say "Radar" detector do you mean for those Guns the police use when measuring how fast you are going ?
If so, then yes they are available BUT in the UK they are illegal and can now be detected by the police if you have one switched on in your car.
If you really must have one, then get down to a technology fair or car boot sale and snoop around.
If your not speeding you wont have to worry about getting a speeding ticket will you.

details... link? does it warn you? does it do anything with radar? picture?

oh, paul, it's not for me, it's for a friend who speeds.... yeah, that's right, a friend.

whatcha think? is it really worth it?

the blinder doesn't protect against radar though (only laser)... is that really necessary?

I've heard good things about the K40. It's probably the best game in town for semi-affordable "hidden" detectors.

ive got one of these:

works fairly well, but radar dectors are legal in my area so i can just mount that sucker right up on the window.

when i was a kid, and radar detectors were illegal in BC, my dad had one stuck in the engine compartment, and it would chirp loud enough that you could hear it in the car. you could probably do something like that, stick it just behind the grill or something so the laser detector can see out the front.

as i already told paul, it's for a friend... yeah, that's it, a friend...
anyway, illinois is okay with radar/laser detectors... so no problem with the law, i just don't want to suction cup anything to my windshield... or have to worry about it being stolen.

just went shopping for one. people i talked to said the k40 blows. they haven't updated their technology in 10 years. they recommended the sr7 or even the older sr1... but they just do radar... but they are invisible. sr7 runs near a grand though... and the sr1 about $600... there's a sz3 or something that is an add on laser shifter for $300ish extra.

what I use in my 2002 jetta to detect the cops, is my rear view, and peripheral vision. what else really do you need?

cool toy notheless, how much they go for? just in case I get popped.
