I know someone who works for an agency that does design work for Apple. She was super excited to get the job and know it meant working at Apple. We both agreed that if there was a perfect time in her life to go all-in on a demanding job that could lead to great things for her, it was right at the point she was in her 20's, single, career-driven, etc.

I think they're like many major tech companies: if you can work there early in your career and throw yourself into it, realizing that you might not have much of a life for a while, it's great, and even better if it can lead to a great career at a company like that.

On the other hand, I've heard people wonder why anyone well into their career, perhaps with a family, outside-of-work obligations, and a desire for a good work life balance would go work for a company like that unless they were going to a seriously top position and making a lot of money.

Long story short, it all comes down to time and place, obligations and career motivation.

    • Why does Apple need an agency to do design work?freedom
    • With 10,000+ people on staff, can't they find enough people so everyone can work 8-9 hour days most of the time?freedom
    • generally, the best ad agency creatives aren't going to go client side and work for one company.inteliboy
    • the ad agency that does almost all apple marketing is a socialized faction of chiat day whos only client is apple. they're called media arts lab (MAL)shellie
    • i worked there for a coupled weeks during a flex 3rd party design staff experiment placed on site. it didn't work but they scooped up one of my dudes.shellie
    • that place is a vault. ive never known an agency so secure.shellie
    • spelling: specialized faction of chiat day called MALshellie
