Straw purchases in the case of guns likely refers to having to buy your gun from a gun dealer. So I want to buy a gun online, I have to use my gun shop as the receiver to complete the transaction. Most pawn shops can do this for you too on new weapon purchases.
The thing about buying like that though is a waiting period and a background check.
To insinuate a straw purchase is so I can buy a gun for my buddy who can't is asinine as the buyers name is the one associated with the weapon.
