I fucking hate this business. You never ever know if you're going to work 8 or 19 hours a day. And because it's "creative" and vaguely artistic, there is some sort of unspoken agreement that you must be "passionate" about your work (work 70 hours a week without complaining).
Well, i am passionate. About my own private projects. The rest is just a job. And it's fine, occasionally interesting and satisfying. But most of the time it's just a job. It pays the bills. And in this business, admitting to that is something you do only if you want to get fired. And it can't be just a job! You must be PASSIONATE about that shitty website/identity/logo whatever. Imagine if plumbers were required to feel passion about fixing drains and installing toilets. They're not.
That's why i quit working in an agencies years ago. Now i do some freelance work, and aide handicapped people. I work 8 hours a day, no more, no less. I have less money (but enough), + now i have a life. And free time is the luxury of the future.
