I grew up in a rural mountain town in North Carolina, and everyone I knew hunted regularly, I've never gotten into it myself, the most I've shot is a few rabbits that my dogs dragged up to put them out of their misery. I've helped a few friends gut/skin a deer to learn more about it, something I think any survivalist should aim to do. If you eat what you shoot I don't see a problem with it, but shooting for pure recreation is a little messed up. And though humans have definitely entrenched upon the territory of animals, over population can have drastic effects on both the food chain and vehicular accidents. I know Durham, NC has had several deaths due to deer being on city streets.
