do it for yourself then firstly, make sure you can enjoy it extremely first!!
if you can stay on your own site for hours after putting in so many hours struggling the CSS and annoying web 1.3 then you did it right!!!
i myself can spend hours on end on my own site...i created it for my own enjoyment...turns out i get over 100,000 unique hits per month, so i must of did something right.
