asian-esque serif fonts Jun 15, 12, 2:49 p.m.
Anyone have any suggestions for any southeast asian looking serif fonts? As in serif fonts with some asian roots I guess. Example:
f*ck you, pay me Apr 29, 12, 1:07 p.m.
There needs to be a thread and/or site where designers can openly state who their client is, a link to the them, and the amount owed that can show up on a google search when a bastard of a client doesn't pay up. Does this already exist?
movie posters Mar 6, 12, 11:27 a.m.
Has anyone done key art for movie posters here? How much did you end up charging? I have done a poster for a friend's documentary that made it into a bunch of festivals and he has gotten a distribution deal. I did the poster as a favor for the friend with a contract stating i'd get royalties on dvd sales and his help directing and editing some music videos for my band, sort of an informal thing. I ended up putting a ton of hours and work in on it, and recently I just redid everything for it in anticipation of its general release. The distro company that has taken over the project is now attempting to bully me into giving up the PSD files and source art for $500 (originally $250, but I tried to bid it to a somewhat proper price which was scoffed at). I offered, instead of giving the psds to them so they could ostensibly create dvd menus and sales sheets, that I could do this material for them, and gave them a bid on that, which was still me giving them like 50% off of what I would have charged any other business and was still scoffed at. I told them to eat a bag of dicks (way more diplomatically), but now I think maybe I should take the money? It would be teaching these dudes to keep being slimy and totally sketchy though. Anyone have experience with indie film or any film distribution? /wall of text
krop contact section Mar 1, 12, 11:44 a.m.
I've been tasked with setting up a friend's krop portfolio. Everything is up there and, as a first time user of Krop, I have to say the backend is really nice! However, now I am probably missing something super obvious. I need to create just an extra page (so the two photo sets they have, and then a contact section) with just a photo of them, and a mailto link to their email address. I don't see how to do that anywhere? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
logos with people Jun 27, 11, 1:37 p.m.
So I've been asked to do a logo for a 'record label' (whatever that means nowadays) and they want a cartoon guy involved somehow. I can't recall ever seeing anything like this pulled off very well at all. Does anyone have any examples of logos with people in them that aren't total piles of garbage?
isometric pixel art in illustrator May 28, 11, 6:21 p.m.
So I am attempting to make some pixel art using an isometric cube as a guide in illustrator and I've noticed an odd effect illustrator has when I try to map a panel I've drawn up. It seems like all the lines of the individual pixels skew at slightly different angles in relation to each other. See:
What gives? This also happens when I try to map in the panel to a perspective grid (CS5). Has anyone encountered this? How would you avoid this effect, or compensate for it?
illy actions Nov 16, 10, 10:44 a.m.
So I haven't really ever used actions much in illustrator, mostly just batch saving for web and lame stuff like that. What I have now though is 800+ ai files that are templates for packaging that all need to have their approval/signature boxes replaced with a new version. Is there a way to set an action up to do something like this (copy from the master doc>clear original box on certain layer>paste new box>center on artboard>save as illustrator cs 4 ai, pdf compatible). Every time I record that workflow, it just tells me that I don't know what I am doing. Sad.
WTFabric Jun 23, 10, 2:33 p.m.
Trying to identify a fabric for a project. It says 100% cotton in the description, but that's pretty vague. Also notice it has a slight sheen to it. Any insight or ideas would be most helpful! Check it out:
wordpress + mt issues May 6, 10, 12:07 p.m.
So I've been helping my brother with his site and getting a gallery on his wordpress install that I have setup on my mt service. I had a plugin called flickr+highslide on there (which is just a bracketed call out in the text field of the page), and it has been working up until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting a 403 error. I didn't change anything, and I have checked the permissions on the folder, but it all looks ok. Have any of your experienced this? Do you think its a mediatemple issue?

furniture design Apr 11, 10, 7:04 p.m.
So I am interested in learning more about furniture design. I have versed myself in CAD software, but I realize that is really nothing if I don't know the fundamentals. Can anyone recommend and good books that talk about this?
non flash slideshow with links Mar 3, 10, 11:27 a.m.
Been looking around the googles and have found lots of java image slideshow, but they've all either been janky or not the same effect I am looking for. Anyone have tips on how to get the image slider on the front page of http://www.isisdei.com in some other method besides flash?
backlit interior displays Dec 28, 09, 10:55 a.m.
So getting some of these lightbox interior ad displays printed up, what are the base costs per square foot that you guys have seen? I am used to just normal like $3-6 for common substrates, but talking to some shops around my area I am getting like $10, is that normal?
dslr purchase advice Nov 27, 09, 11:10 a.m.
Hey so I have been lurking the recent dslr threads that have been on here the past few days trying to absorb the info before I decide to finally buy another camera. I used to have several mid range Canon cameras (50d, etc) but they were stolen a while back and I've just been borrowing from my nice brother for my photo shoots, which is getting a bit old. I was curious to what the experts in here would do with this choice. I don't have an obscene budget otherwise I'd just get the 5d mkII and be done with it, but I was checking out the specs on the 7d and the t1i, and was surprised at how good the t1i looks. Should I just pony up for the 7d and wait a little longer on more and better lenses, or will the t1i be good enough and I can supplement it with better glass? anyone have experience with either of these cameras? Thanks guys!!
skyscraper font id Nov 25, 09, 9:50 a.m.
Anyone have an idea of what font the "skyscraper" part is in?
pantone dye service in CA Nov 21, 09, 3:36 p.m.
Hey guys, looking for a place in Cali in or around LA and/or Orange County that I can order some dyed pantone cotton swatches. I used to use a place in Oceanside, but they went out of business! Anyone have any good leads?
pantone...wut?? Nov 11, 09, 11:41 a.m.
So I used to do a lot of apparel junk once upon a time and used TPX a bunch in Illustrator CS, but now several years later and several jobs later I need to do some more fabric and color story work, and now they charge for this file?? WTF? Anyone have the TPX file or a handy link to where such a library file would exist?
screen printing a pattern Sep 21, 09, 3:47 p.m.
Does anyone know how to go about preparing a pattern swatch to get screen printed? It's going to be used in the big roll printers to make panels on the outside of these bags. Any advice would be awesome, thanks
thick sweet paper Sep 4, 09, 3:23 p.m.
So I am doing this project for this photographer for a promo and we just spoke with a local printer here and the thickest they were willing to go was a 130# on their offset, but I was curious if anyone had experience with pressing multiple pieces of paper stock together and then printing on that. Maybe something as thick as the recent Veer postercard:
logic pro for live Aug 25, 09, 10:22 p.m.
so I am trying to set something up for my band so I can play a backing track/sample live while we play over it, but I have the click track in my headphones (i play drums). I was told I need to do something with right and left channels while exporting, but this was from a guy using protools. anyone using logic here? ideally i'd like to have it run through this sample pad trigger thing i have and not through an ipod, but an ipod would be ok to. I was trying to run it through my small mixer to split the sound between my phones and the PA, but I don't know. any audio guys here?
