I'm about to start a tour next week all over the US and Canada with a couple of hip hop groups. I'm shooting a couple visuals myself and with other directors around the country. I guess they didn't think that a "create your own ad" activity would result in endless trolling with their brand attached. Bravo.

They're currently trying to get them all down, but users are able to make ads with cute animals and landscapes, then add a caption (like - "birds are like sponges... for oil!). You can imagine people went promptly into trolling mode. What were they thinking would happen?

The first sentence on the page reads:
"Here at Shell, we’re committed to online social media...." And then go into damage control mode by threatening people on twitter to not share their technical (and conceptual) snafu. They wanted viral, right? Acknowledging the mistake while it's happening seems to be one way to put a spotlight on it. The 3 people who were offended I'm sure could wait for a response until after the problem was resolved.

Brands should take note. Just because you can build it and it's been done before, doesn't mean it will work for you. So many of them fall into this trap -- but this oil company I really expected would be smarted than trying the user generated content idea especially without moderation. If they have an advertising company behind this, they should consider letting them go. But if this happened in house, someone really ought to lose their job.

Still on tour -- the band and I are doing a free show at a dance party. I'll also be celebrating my 29th birthday. I've never been to Denver before outside of the airport. Whoever is free should come kick it. I'll be looking for stuff to do (probably) the earlier in the day and we'll also be there with a free day before and the day after before we have to really get moving. Be my tour guide :D

If anyone happens to be in Tulsa, Oklahoma for halloween, I just confirmed a show there so we're headed to the bible belt after Denver.

In most cases on tour you never really get to see the cities you're visiting but this time the schedule isn't super nuts. In most places I have an extra day (maybe two).

Use Imported JPG Data Jul 25, 11, 8:24 a.m.

I've been looking around but I haven't quite found my answer yet. I'm working on someone else's files and the option to "Use Imported JPG Data" is not an option in the library. Strangely, the files I set up have this option, and the files he set up are missing that option. This is probably something simple, but I can't quite figure it out. Anyone? Thanks in advanced.

Does anyone know of a browser add-on that displays all the URLs of files loaded when the page loads and their file size? I've been looking for something like that but I'm finding everything but that. Halp.

Have any of you ever done this? Good God it's so much paperwork and it's taking a billion years, but I just completed my on site visit on Monday (to verify I am truly black). But, I'm wondering after all this work, if any of you have seen an influx of awarded contracts because of their minority status. I've never worked for or owned a company that was registered before. It seems like a rare few vendors that would qualify in our industry but I'd be curious to know if there are broadcast or interactive vendors out there might be competitors in this small space.

Boards of Canada Video Mar 18, 11, 4:11 p.m.

Hey guys -- I've beens scouring for this Boards Of Canada video I saw once at a RESfest screening by RES magazine. Of course now that epic magazine is dead, and their once awesome website archives that once were are gone. I can't find any information about which videos were played except that it screened in the May 2006 RES screening in Hollywood. I can't even remember the song, however it (from memory) sounded a lot like roygbiv, it could very well be a different song.

It featured these animated creatures that were on an exodus from nature and ended up in space. Has anyone seen it? It was a pretty impressive bit of animation. HALP!

I just decided I might road trip it down from New York to Austin because I happen to have a car here. Anyone else in the area wanting to hop in the ride down to Texas on early Wednesday? I'm leaving back to NYC sometime on Sunday and would make it back sometime Monday. With a full car, we can make it down with no stopping. I have a fairly comfortable Subraru at my disposal.

AE rendering inquiry Mar 11, 11, 1:25 p.m.

Hey guys. I've been searching but can't quiet find the answer anywhere. I just got a new computer and installed after effects CS5. I've done this before on my older computer, but I just wanted to change an end card of a video and re-render a non-compressed, animation quality quicktime.

When I render, even though the aspect ratio is the same as the original, the image appears squished horizontally. When I look at the new video's dimensions in get info, it reads correctly but it doesn't look like it. When I hold the original video up next to the new one, they're obviously not the same time even though their info says they are.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Do any of you have myodesopsia? I've been noticing floating bits in my right eye when I'm looking at light colors, white, working on a light table or looking into bright light. Looks like a bug is crawling across the wall, but I can move it around with my eye.

I was told people just learn to ignore it, but it's common. I've never heard anyone mention them to me until recently. Just wondering if any of you guys have experienced something similar. I kept thinking there was dust on my computer screen. It's so annoying.
