Recurse alternative

Anyone know any alternatives to Recurse?

http://www.recurseapp.com

For previewing designs in the browser... Basically overlaying a main image over a tiling/stretching/hex background.

Recurse has been great up until recently but is becoming increasingly unreliable. Server down, server errors etc.

Chrome and youtube

Just started using Chrome as Safari keeps crashing.

When I open a load of youtube videos in new tabs it plays the video before I open the tab. How stupid is that?

Is there anyway to get it to only load the video once I open the tab, like safari does?

Seems like a stupid oversight to me, unless I'm missing a preference somewhere?

Cheap tablet/laptop advice

My Mum's laptop has stopped working apparently and thought I'd get her something for Christmas.

ALL she does on it is check her email, do the odd google search and store her photos from her camera so it doesn't need to be anything fancy.

Can anyone suggest a cheap (but half decent) laptop or maybe a tablet? I like the idea of a tablet but do they generally come with a usb port? Maybe I could get her that and an HD for her photos.

Not looking to spend much more than £200 ideally. No idea about this kind of market so not sure if thats reasonable or not.

Any suggestions mucho appreciado !

Lumix LX3 vs Olympus XY-1

Should I get a Lumix LX3 or an Olympus XY-1 ?

Both seem like great little cameras and both get good reviews so I reckon I'd be happy with either... It's just for personal use and probably won't even make full use of it anyway (in terms of all the settings and customisations). I'm mainly a point and shoot type of user but would be nice to have something with capabilities.

Be nice to hear any opinions on either or

:-)

43,000 Galaxies

http://fastcache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/4/2011/05/2mrs527.jpg

This is What 43,000 Galaxies Look Like On a Map.

The image above is the most complete map of our local universe to date. It took more that ten years to create, has 43,000 galaxies and extends out 380 million light years from the earth. The 3D coordinates of each galaxy was recorded so the raw data could potentially be used to build a realistic 3D model of the universe. Throw in some holographic technology and you have something straight from Star Trek.
