This isn't intended to start a mac vs. pc flamewar; I'm looking for feedback. Do you really love your iPhone?

I've been using WP8 for a while now. Yesterday I put my SIM card in my iPhone 4S to test a client app and I'm surprised by how much I hate the UI. WP8 provides so much feedback and the iPhone's notifications are so generic.

Ex: my 2 (work and gmail) emails are under the email chicklet and I see the number of unread emails (which looks daunting). On WP8 I only see new emails since I last looked...and I can separate those emails if I want (which I do).

Does brand love override great user experience?

I let my 14 year old niece borrow my Leica DLUX-5 for a week (she has gotten into photography). She loved it so much I'd like to get her a camera that has some of the features (has pre-set scenarios and settings - like pinhole) but is way cheaper.

Have any of you ever had any issues with background checks and freelance work? I am having an issue right now...I've gone through 2 background checks in the past with nary a problem but now for some reason I'm getting flagged. Issue is that I've kept up freelance for about ten years even if I've had full time jobs. Sometimes I get i9's from clients, sometimes they've put me on payroll so I could get insurance, and sometimes I've not had to work for a couple of months. How does one document all that randomness?

I'm thinking about going back to school for a Masters in either Ethnography or Anthropology. Anthropology is more broadly interesting to me but Ethnography would be more closely related to what I'm doing now. Anyone done this? I'm a visual designer who has moved more and more into the user experience field and I'd like to meld both.
