I recently quit a job (after giving a month's notice) and let's just say the boss wasn't happy with things as I left them (no fault of mine!), and is now refusing to pay me in full for my last two weeks (not to mention the vacation pay and 1 week of termination pay owed), and declared he will pay my replacement out of the money he's withholding... I've already called the labour relations board, and there's the slimmest chance this will all be resolved peacefully...

But, what if it's not? This job is basically the only hard, real experience I have, and thus the only real reference I could put on my resume. What do I do?

I've heard good things from a couple of people about Apple's refurbished macbooks/pros. I mentioned this to our IT guy (yeah I caved and asked him) and he says everything he's heard says the refurb laptops are lemons, and most of them were returned because of hardware faults (because they're easier to return than a desktop).

Any actual refurb macbook users here want to set the record straight?

New logo for AGO May 15, 08, 9:37 a.m.

Designer: Bruce Mau

Client: Art Gallery of Ontario

Due: May 15, 2008

Creative Brief: Design a "distinctive new logo that will represent the Gallery well beyond its Fall 2008 opening." Logo should capture "both the stability of the century-old institution and the forward-looking energy of the new Gallery."

(If that proves too challenging, refer to graphic design portfolio created while at OCAD, circa 1977.)

Creative Tasklist:

1. Open MS Word.

2. Choose primary font. Helvetica? Too advertisement-y. Verdana? Too webby. IMPACT? Done!

3. Art meets fashion: borrow colour palette from H & M Spring/Summer 2008.

4. Open MS Paint. Also, a serious bottle of whiskey.

5. Copy. Paste. Click. Drag. Over. And over.

6. LSD flashback!

7. Examine finished product. Worry someone might think it's a joke. Remember that you are very Big in Toronto and could probably shit out the letters AGO and get an award for it.
