I'm currently working as a web designer and I have a decent understanding of HTML and CSS but have always been a designer at heart. But over the passed few months I've considered making the transition to being a web developer.

I know designers need coding skills these days but I'd like to become a lot more focused on the technical side than I am.

I'm not stupid though, I know it's not just a matter of watching a couple of videos on Lynda.com or reading a book. I just wanted to get some feedback or advice off anyone who has made this move themselves or can just point me in the right direction.

Just wondered if anyone has ever redesigned something they thought was god awful and then gone on to show that design to the company and actually won work from it?

For example, you see a website you think could be way better. Knock out a nice design for it. Email that company and actually get them to hire you to redesign their site.

Knowing HTML and CSS is wank. It means no one thinks of me as a designer anymore. But I have nowhere near enough code skills and have no interest in being a developer.

so its "Amazon" rather than "http://www.amazon.com".

hate doing these things on here. try not to hurt my feelings. anyway its for a flash animation site. used a font called pop manta, which i've customised slightly by adding crosses in the counters in some way to reference the name 'illegal channels'. it was initially in a big tv but it looked really gimmicky and over complicated so i just added an aerial ontop instead. just want everyones thoughts on it, any suggestions on what could make it work better etc. i think it looks alright in both black and white and at small scale.
