Back in the day Actinic had a good name - is this still the case? Or is there a better solution these days?
A mate wants to set up a small e-shop (100-200 SKUs) and of course has no money...

jquery moodboard / pinboard? Nov 30, 11, 4:07 a.m.
Here's an idea - it may well have been done already, if that's the case then let me know where i can get it.
I want somewhere to store interesting images (that i've found on the interwebs or uploaded myself). but i want to be able to keep them in a moodboard style display - not in some grid/slideshow format like flickr/tumblr. I want to be able to add notes, have different "boards" (organised by colour, or subject or just random).
I want to be able to move and resize images then lock them in position so that when I reopen the page they're in the same place I left them. But I also want to be able to add to / delete/ edit the boards whenever I want.
I've had a look through the interweb but haven't really found what I'm after - the nearest is moodboard for the ipad, but I want to do this online. http://www.simonbattersby.com/de… has the ability to move things around, but no way to resize or lock them once they're in an arrangement (or upload). http://www.viget.com/inspire/per… looks too formalised
I've done a quick visual:
though there'd also need to be an "import image" button. And a "add text" button. Oh and a "save" button.
Anyone (stewdio?) know how to / want to make such a thing? I'll happily chuck in some design input (though I guess it's really just the functionality that's important). Might be worth a few bob in the long run?
anyone out there know Kentico? Nov 23, 11, 1:25 a.m.
The wife's school has got itself into a bit of mess with a so-called web developer and needs some help finishing the site and integrating WorldPay.
Being a simple designer I haven't a clue what any of this means but there's money in it (no idea how much).
I realise this is a long shot (asking the QBN elite about such an untidy job) but if you want more info or you know someone who might be able to help, email me and I'll pass your details on.

hacked wp site? Oct 14, 11, 2:17 a.m.
My daughter (gawd love her) has decided to resurrect her blog from a year ago... but when she looked at the site she found it has been hijacked by some vampire mmorpg game!
I dug through our records and went back to 123-reg to see if there was any clue there, and got some message about it being so long since we had logged in they'd disabled some site features but these would now be re-enabled. The nameservers were pointing back to 123-reg, whereas the site itself was (and still is) hosted at 000webhost.
I've repointed the nameservers from 123-reg to 000webhost as specified by webhost but as yet the parasite site is still there. The original blog files all seem to be intact.
What has happened? I'm totally out of my depth when it comes to all this DNS / A record shit and before I get stuck in the hurt loop of 123-reg and 000webhost helplines I wondered if one of you experts might be able to point me in the right direction.

flag too scary? Oct 12, 11, 6:28 a.m.
From the Times
For decades, Flanders has taken pride in its flag depicting a rampant roaring lion brandishing blood-red claws.
Now, however, leaders of Belgium’s Dutch-speaking region have accused the medieval beast of terrifying investors and visitors and have opened a competition for a friendlier Flemish logo.
Kris Peeters, the president of Belgium’s most prosperous region, said the fierce animal was sending the wrong message.
“Flanders stands for an open and warm society. Sadly, not everybody is convinced. Especially abroad, the picture of how people see Flanders is very fragmented,” he told a parliamentary conference. Mr Peeters was speaking as Flemish and French-speaking politicians tied up a pact that should end Belgium’s record 16 months without a working government.
Another classic case of redesigning the logo hoping that will be enough rather than changing a company ethos?

2012 medal design Jul 28, 11, 1:09 a.m.
I think the old-fashioned reverse showing Nike hovering over a racetrack is traditional, whereas the host city can do whatever they want on the other side. Makes for an odd mix though...

Adobe really are total cunts and no mistake. I'm glad I still use Quark - yeah - FUCK YOU ADOBE!

hi-res images on teh interwebs Jun 30, 11, 6:28 a.m.
I've just come back from a meeting where an SEO specialist claimed it was possible to have images at a higher resolution than 72 dpi on a website.
This is a load of cock, isn't it? No browser will display an image at a higher res than 72dpi... will it?
If you constrain the size with html then it will crush the pixels accordingly, and if you don't the image will just display much larger than intended.
Or have I got that wrong/fallen behind the curve?
poor crowd behaviour at gigs Jun 15, 11, 1:01 a.m.
I was at the Lil' Band O' Gold gig last night at the Shepherd's Bush Empire and was really struck (not to say pissed off with the way many people just talked all the way through the performance. The same thing happened at another gig I went to a couple of months back where Paul Frick had to get up from his piano and ask the crowd to shut up and listen.
WTF? I know I'm old an' all, but is this normal crowd behaviour these days? If so, why bother to go if you aren't there to listen/watch/enjoy/mosh the performance. Stay in your shitty pubs ffs and let me hear the band.
They just didn't seem at all interested in the gig - it's almost like they just wanted to be part of the scene, so they could say "Oh yah, I totally went to that gig it was sooo cooool" on Facebook or whatever young people do these days. And on quieter numbers all you could hear was the constant inane chatter of these imbeciles.
I know this isn't really the forum for this topic, but as this is the only place I'm in touch with you young whippersnappers I'm interested in your reaction (if you're not too busy chatting)

jobs ill again? Jan 17, 11, 6:19 a.m.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs on Monday asked the board of the computer giant to grant him medical leave, sending shares down more than 4 percent.
"At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health," Jobs said in a statement. "I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company."
"I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy," the statement added.
The company's shares were down 4.5 percent on the news, Reuters reported.
who did these pub signs? Jan 10, 11, 8 a.m.
I can't find anything on google or remember who did a series of pub signs (I think for John Smith's but I can't be sure) in this style. The project was overseen by a big agency but again my books are letting me down
