there's a company that sells pretty slick portfolio cases in a number of different materials... wood, leather, plastic, etc.

they also offer custom engraving. the last i saw their site i remember it being a simple flash page on white with an orange logo (i think).

does this ring a bell to anyone?

along the same lines, while i lived in japan about 15 years ago i had the coolest mechanical pencil. it looked just like a syringe; the barrel contained fake blood and the plunger controlled the lead. the lead itself was obviously the needle...

so i know there are quite a few very talented photographers here. i hardly know much about photography myself, but i've taken an interest recently and want to learn more (and obviously get better).

i purchased an entry level dSLR (canon 450D, or rebel xsi). i have the standard lens kit. can anyone recommend any additional lenses to go along with it? i'll mostly be shooting (practicing) beauty/fashion/etc.

beyond that, can anyone recommend any books or websites that will be a worthwhile resource as i jump into this wildly overwhelming art?

using CS3 beta

if i have a layer named "Layer 1" and i duplicate the layer, the new layer is named "Layer 1 copy." each time i duplicate that layer it tacks on copy 1, copy 2, etc. on the end

not a big deal when doing one layer at a time, but often i duplicate layer sets and then everything gets that stupid "...copy" tacked on the end. i know it's a copy, i just fucking duplicated it myself. the larger the layer set the more annoying it is.

is this a preference i can turn off somehow?

los angeles folk, i need your help!

i found this dog wandering around home depot in pasadena with no collar. she has a micro chip, but the phone number and address no longer belong to her registered owner.

she is around a year and a half old, 61 lbs., spayed, and has all of her vaccinations. she is incredibly loving, sweet, and obedient. she is also already housebroken.

i've done everything i could to keep her myself, but my apt. complex will not allow pitbulls, and i have 7 months left in my lease. no one i know can take a dog at the moment either.

please help find this dog a home! i don't want to take her to the SPCA only to have her humanely euthanized a week later.

the nearest LA no-kill shelter has no room for her.
